Irit Koren, post-doctoral fellow at the Institute for Israel and Jewish studies, recently received her Ph.D. in Gender Studies from Bar Ilan University.  Her research focuses on the intersection of Gender with Jewish Studies, with a particular emphasis on the challenges faced by women at the juncture of tradition and modernity.  She is currently writing a book on the ways in which religious Jewish feminists challenge, adapt and resist the traditional wedding ritual (forthcoming 2008, Hebrew University Magnes Press).  She holds a B.A. from Bar Ilan and an M.A. from the the Hebrew University.  Her first book, Aron Betoch Aron (“Closet Within a Closet,” Yediot Aharonot Press 2003), explores the world of Orthodox gays and lesbians.  She has taught at the Jewish Theological Seminary and at the Academic College of Tel Aviv-Jaffa, and has lectured widely in Israel and the United States.
