A new article explores the history of Jewish Studies at Columbia and the Institute’s role on campus today.

The Institute for Israel and Jewish Studies is featured in a recent article by Paul Hond in Columbia Magazine. The piece traces the origins of Jewish Studies at Columbia through the work of its founding scholar, Salo Wittmayer Baron, and reflects on the Institute’s mission to support rigorous scholarship and thoughtful dialogue on Jewish history, culture, and contemporary issues.

Celebrating 75 Years of the Institute for Israel and Jewish Studies

On Tuesday, November 11, the Institute for Israel and Jewish Studies gathered with students, faculty, alumni, and friends to celebrate seventy-five years of scholarship, dialogue, and community at Columbia University. The evening featured warm reflections on the Institute’s legacy and the people who have shaped its history.

The celebration also included an exhibit on the history of IIJS, curated by Norman E. Alexander Librarian for Jewish Studies Michelle Margolis, and a commemorative video capturing the spirit and story of the Institute.

Thank you to everyone who joined us in marking this meaningful milestone and to the many individuals whose commitment has carried IIJS forward across the decades.
