Join the Norman E. Alexander Library on Zoom on Monday, December 1, at noon for The Annual Norman E. Alexander Celebration of Collections. This webinar, titled “Beyond the Text: Reading Jewish History Between the Words,” features IIJS’s own, Prof. Elisheva Carlebach, Dr. Eugene Matanky of Tel Aviv Universiaty, Prof. Edward Fram of Ben Gurion University, and Norman E. Alexander Librarian for Jewish Studies, Michelle Margolis.

This year's annual NEA Celebration of Collections has an early modern focus, where these three scholars will discuss their research on what we find in books when we look beyond the actual texts - at annotations, illustrations, and other paratexts.

The program will include the following talks:

"Columbia's Illustrated Jewish Calendar Manuscript in Context" (Prof. Elisheva Carlebach)

"Repairing Divinity: Ezra da Fano, Textual Correction, and Kabbalah in Early Modern Italy" (Dr. Eugene Matanky)

"How a Columbia Manuscript Brought Ashkenazic Traditions to Shulhan 'Arukh" (Prof. Edward Fram)
